Date: 16/05/2012 - 26/06/2012
The Head Works Programme In conjunction with the Kent Schools Wellbeing Programme we have sought to provide Wellbeing support for Headteachers through a programme of seminars called Head Works. We launched the Head Works Programme in response to evidence that although Headteachers devote a lot of time to caring for the wellbeing of their staff but often neglect their own health and happiness. The Programme has been running for 5 years and is fully sponsored by Towergate Insurance. The events devote workshop sessions to Personal Wellbeing and Wellbeing Management. There is a speaker or demonstration to help Headteachers relax and unwind. Previous speakers have included - Ray Mears on leadership skills; the actor Ben Walden who gave a presentation on strategies for stress management based around the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur; Simon Weston who spoke about his personal experiences whilst serving in the Welsh Guards during the Faulklands War; Baroness Tanny Grey-Thompson one of Great Britain’s most successful paralympians; demonstrations from chefs on quick and healthy food preparation; and stress relief therapy including reflexology, Indian head massages and hand and foot massages. These events also provide an excellent opportunity for Headteachers and Senior Management to network and share experiences and techniques. Next Event 29th June 2012 Blow the cobwebs away, take a leaf from the Brogdale Fruit Collection and enhance your personal long-term sustainability for your future wellbeing. Headteachers and their Senior Management Teams are invited to attend our free Head Works event at Brogdale Farm. The core of the programme remains health and well-being of senior staff in our schools. The morning workshops (see below) are a mix of technical training, wellbeing, recruiting the right staff and practical strategies for reducing your stress levels. Booking form attached or online via our Well-being page on www.kent-teach.com or CPD online ref: SCH 12/1014 Workshops • Recruit in haste, repent in leisure – Focus on effective advert copywriting. How this translates to the internet. Advice on the most effect media for advertising. • Engaging & Retaining Teachers – A practical workshop which will help define what “engagement” actually means in a working environment (moving to practical definitions rather than “pop theory”); review research findings showing the organisational value of engagement activities and provide access to free tools that can be used within your own school. • Recruiting the Right Team Player – Recruiting new staff into an existing team can be particularly stressful in terms of building for success. PackTypes® Discovery identifies areas that need to be strengthened enabling you to streamline the selection process with confidence. We aim to cater for around 200 Headteachers and members of Senior Management a year, and in previous sessions over 172 individuals benefitted from a Head Works Event and we aim for a similar uptake this year. We have received useful and positive feedback from our previous Head Works events. Here are some comments from participants: “Made me step back and consider health issues of all staff as well as my own” “Ray Mears - inspirational!!! Real insights into leadership as well as extremely entertaining.” “A reaffirmation of the importance of valuing staff wellbeing - it is not the soft option!” “This recharges your batteries and motivates for the next day at school.” “Brilliant - glad Kent recognises the need. Great lunch- good networking opportunities” “Improved self-confidence so I am working more effectively - I feel rejuvenated.” If you would like further information on our current Head Works programme or if you would like to leave feedback about a Head Works session you have attended please email recruit.assist@kent.gov.uk.
